Baseline Bombers, Accurate Aces consolidate with back-to-back wins

Ankita Raina's win fails to rub on Dazzling Duces as Saketh Myneni-led Baseline Bombers scores second straight win; Accurate Aces too win second rubber on the trot

Pune, November 29: India No 1 Ankita Raina scored quick-time win over Rishika Sunkara, but Dazzling Duces failed to carry on the momentum as Baseline Bombers scored second win on the trot, on the second day of the 3rd edition of the Amanora Premier Tennis League at the Deccan Gymkhana courts here on Saturday.

Baseline Bombers defeated Dazzling Duces 26-20 losing just one match—the women's singles against Ankita Raina.

On the side court, Accurate Aces began splendidly to take first four matches before losing the men's doubles against Sharp Smashers and won 26-21 to consolidate their standings in the PTL.

Saketh on the fore
Baseline Bombers took the show court but made an ominous start when Ankita overpowered Rashmi Teltumbde 6-2. With the vociferous support from the dugout , Baseline Bombers clawed their way back into the back when Vijay Sundar Prashant defeated Christopher Marquis 6-3 after making a splendid start to the match.

Marquis gave some tense moments, but Prashant held on to his serves well at the crucial points to bring Bombers closer to the Duces score. The second men's singles really underlined the remaining rubber as Saketh Myneni come out firing aces. He led 4-1 at one juncture breaking Jeevan Neduncheziyan twice before the Dazzling Duces player held his serve in the sixth game of the match.

Saketh served down two aces before wrapping up the set 6-2 to put Baseline Bombers ahead.

The mixed doubles match was mot entertaining as Kedar Shah and Prarthana Thombare first took a minor lead before Kedar's service was broken to bring the set back on serves.

As the match went into tie-breaker, Prarthana and Kedar showed urgency in combining well to lead 4-1 before winning the tie-breaker 7-4. The final match, the men's doubles tie between Saketh Myneni and Rupesh Roy and Duces pair of Jeevan Neduncheziyan and Kaza Sharma went with the serves till 4-4 before the Bombers earned a break and served out the match.

Rishika gives early push
Rishika Sunkara provided Accurate Aces just the start they were looking for as she beat Sowjanya Bavisetti 6-2. The win the women's singles rubbed off on the next matches as Tejas Chaukulkar and Sriram Balaji both won their men's singles matches in tie-breaks.

Vishnu Vardhan and Eetee Mehta then wrapped up the mixed doubles match early on as they beat PC Vignesh and Sharmada Balu 6-3 to give insurmountable 24-15 lead. The final match, the men's doubles between Sriram Balaji and Arun Prakash and the Sharp Smashers pair of Vijayant Malik and Sanam Singh was one-sided affair.

Sanam Singh won lost his singles match against Sriram Balaji played with vengeance and gave his team some valuable points in 6-2 win.
